Why Does My Child Attend Art?

There are many reasons why it is beneficial for a child to attend art class. DoDDS art teachers are committed to creating meaningful art lessons that will allow children to explore history and culture as well as their own ideas. Students are also encouraged to formulate their own opinions about art and express them in meaningful class discussions and reflection sheets.

Children in grades K-5 at Seoul American Elementary school are given a wide range of assignments that incorporate various materials. In Ms. Showalter's art class, drawing from observation is encouraged to help train students to look carefully at details. Other materials include yarn, paper, pencils, paints, oil pastels, pastels, rulers, glue, clay, and papier mache. By giving the students assignments that explore different media, the students discover their strengths in art.

Students are also taught drawing techniques, and engage in problem solving throughout their projects.
